Hidden Values are a feature that allows you to use data you already have and better track information about your respondents.

By adding a hidden value you can craft a custom URL to pass data from other sources. They can be used for various purposes, such as tracking the source of respondents (e.g. social media channels) or segmenting your audience for deeper insights and analysis.

Hidden Values allow you to place data that you already have directly in your Formless conversation URL. The data will also be displayed in the Responses tab.

The hidden values can be kept from the respondent, truly hidden. Alternatively, in specific cases, you might want to reveal certain known data to users, like their email, and ask for confirmation. For this purpose, you can use a type of hidden value called “prefill answer.”

Let’s explore how this feature works!

1

To add a Hidden Field, go to the share panel by clicking the “Share” button on the top-right of your screen.

Click on the last tab, Hidden values.

Here you can find two options: Hidden values and Prefill answers.

3

Hidden values can be used to pass information that need to be hidden to the respondent. Click on “Add hidden value” to add the information you want to pass.

In this example, we add the “utm_source”, “utm_campaign” or a respondent identifiers as the “user_id”.

A new URL will be generated, with all the different values you’ve added. By clicking on Copy link, you will be able to modify it with the information you want to pass.

You can manually populate these information and for instance create different URL for different channel where you want to embed your formless. These information will be passed in the response, so that you’ll know each visitor from which channel is coming from.

Or you can populate information from other apps, like CRM/Marketing or email marketing tools (this works as in Typeform).

With Prefill answers you can pre-populated specific questions in your journey with known information.

For instance if you want to share a personalized link, or pre-populate the email from another app (check how in the links above), you can add email as a pre-fill answers.

5

In this case, the information will not be “hidden”, but it will appear as a button during the conversation. The respondent could confirm the information by simply click on it, or they will have the option to write a different one if they like to!
